| The West River Valley begins at what
looks like a large pond just North of the Brattleboro town center. Known as the Retreat
Meadows, these floodplains provide a great retreat for canoeing, fishing, and observing
wildlife. |

The West River is
home to the longest covered bridge in Vermont. It is also host to numerous water holes for
summer swimming, canoeing, inner tubing, or just relaxing on a rock in the lazy summer
sun. |
|
|
|
Covered bridges are in
abundance throughout Vermont. The lure of these old-fashioned bridges is not only in their
charm and craftsmanship, but in the romance of their heritage. Imagine a horse and cart
clop-clopping along atop the wooden floors on a sunny Sunday drive. |

True to the
historic nature of Newfane, Vermont, is the Newfane Country Store. Visitors will delight
in the amount of goods that can be packed into a country store, ranging from Maple Syrup
to galoshes. |
|
|
|
| Newfane's Town Square may be the most
photographed village in Vermont. With its historic white buildings, including the Union
Hall and Congregational Church, this is a beautiful old town. |

The
Congregational Church and Gazebo in Newfane are classic examples of the spirit of New
England. Once upon a Sunday, parishioners would gather at Church in their Sunday Best,
mingle at the town square to share stories, and head out for Sunday Drives among the
meadows and hillsides. |
