Nauset Light and the
Nauset Light area is a mesmerizing attraction in its own right.
Start the day
with a sunrise walk on Nauset Light Beach. Nauset Light built in 1877 was moved from
Chatham in 1923.
Because of erosion and care of
the lighthouse, the Nauset Light Preservation Society was formed by local residents in
1993 to save and restore the lighthouse. It was moved further inland to its present site
in 1996. Open to the public on Sundays.
Nauset Marsh at
sunset is well worth the visit.
The area is well suited for
studies of salt marsh ecosystems and upland succession as well as excellent bird watching.
The aerial view
of the Seashore shows an expanse of beautiful beach front. One can walk the thirty miles
from Nauset Light Beach to the tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown as did Henry David Thoreau
in the early 1800's.
