Springfield, MA
Home to several large towns and the city of Springfield, there is always plenty to do and see in the Greater Springfield area. Rich in cultural activities on a grand scale for our part of the world. Large neo-classical buildings house the Opera, the Symphony, the Ballet, and more. Like living in a little New York, even the library is staged to be impressive. There are the usual city activities available including 4 museums, a Civic Center, the Springfield Symphony Hall, shops, and restaurants. But what Springfield is becoming most well-known for are the athletic events and buildings dedicated to such sports as Basketball (in 1891), which originated here, and Volleyball which was also invented here (in 1895). North of Springfield, the primarily rural country setting is highlighted with five outstanding institutes of higher education and the culturally innovative small city of Northampton.
